My name is Heloise Laight.

I’ve worked in the publishing industry since 1993. I started out as a lowly marketing assistant for Agora Inc – one of the world’s most successful financial publishers…

He needed medicine to speed up the healing of his spots.

I said I’d nip out to get his prescription as the chemists was just around the corner.

That’s when I slipped.

It wasn’t a hard fall… more a slow motion dropping to my knees.

But it must have jogged something inside.

By the time I got back into the house, my waters had broken…

The hospital struggled to stop me going into labour as each extra day would allow the baby to get stronger.

But then we heard the news a few days later that my blood tests revealed a danger of infection.

I would have to be induced… to ensure the baby would be born that day.

I was inconsolable.

Nick was banned from the hospital for fear of infecting the other expectant mothers with his chickenpox.

My lovely mum agreed to step in as my birth partner but this wasn’t the way I’d planned.

Thankfully, my baby boy (Zac) was born  healthy… if tiny!

However, he had severe jaundice and an infection so they had to keep us in the hospital for another week, to make sure he was ok.

The whole experience was a huge shock.

My plans were in tatters.

I thought I’d take a few months maternity leave and then back to the job I loved.

But one night, in the maternity ward as I was feeding Zac, I decided then and there I couldn’t go back to work in the way I had before.

Yes, I still wanted the challenges, excitement and financial rewards I was used to…

But I managed a large team and worked long hours and travelled all over the world to help set up other offices.

I had no real life outside work.

I had to figure out a way to get some balance back. And I couldn’t afford not to work or be bringing in income.

So I took what felt at the time a huge risk and started my own business.

I remember when Zac was still tiny, I’d grab 30 minutes here and there between feeds as I set up the business.

And as he got a bit older he went for 2 mornings a week to nursery.

It’s amazing what you can get done in a short space of time when you have to.  I got more done in those 2 mornings that most people do in a week!

In the early days I published a monthly newsletters…. then subscription services… and eventually went on to develop and launch courses.
